Promoting the pelvic health and well-being of women throughout their lives

Professor Chantale Dumoulin

The Women’s Health and Aging Laboratory is led by Chantale Dumoulin, PT, PhD and Canada Research Chair in Urogynecological Health and Aging (2012-2022). Chantale Dumoulin is the Director and Founder of the Laboratory. As Professor at the School of Rehabilitation at the Université de Montréal, she developed and currently directs its graduate perineal and pelvic rehabilitation program for physiotherapists, the only program of its kind in Canada.

Pelvic health issues

Pelvic health issues are common among older women. According to current literature, 55% of women age 65 and over suffer from urinary incontinence, 63% of them suffer from vulvo-vaginal atrophy and 36% from pelvic organ descent. Pelvic health issues can have a significant impact on the health, sexuality and quality of life of older women. The conservative treatments outlined on this site can help reduce the signs and symptoms of pelvic health issues.

Research

The objectives of the Women’s Health and Aging Laboratory are to better understand the causes of urinary incontinence and other gynecological issues, and to develop and implement improved physiotherapy treatments targeting the women who are most likely to benefit.
