Project and objectives: In Quebec, public access to urinary incontinence care is often lengthy and complex. At the outpatient continence clinic at the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal (IUGM), we are testing a new model of care to speed up treatment. Initial triage by a nurse, followed by an advanced physiotherapy assessment, allows women with “simple” urinary incontinence to access perineal rehabilitation, the recommended treatment, more quickly. Inspired by an Australian approach, this initiative aims to reduce delays, improve symptoms and patient satisfaction, while lightening the load on medical specialists.
Who may participate in this research?
Women age 65 and over who:
Suffer from “simple” urinary incontinence;
Are referred to the IUGM continence clinic.
*Other admission criteria may apply.
